SCHS Instrumental Music Ensembles

The Concert Band

This is a full year band performance ensemble which emphasizes the continued development of students playing skills.  This group focuses on intermediate high school band literature.  Students are auditioned in the spring of the previous school year and are placed in this ensemble according to musical ability on their instrument.  This ensemble performs in 4 concerts and District Band Festival. 

 Beginning in late July the Concert Band combines with the Wind ensemble to form the “Dragon Marching Band” at a mandatory Band Camp held at Swartz Creek High School.  These two ensembles remain combined through early November at which time they split to form two separate performing ensembles.  They remain this way until May when they reform as the “Dragon Marching Band”.

The Wind Ensemble

This is a full year band performance ensemble which emphasizes the performance of advanced high school band literature.  Students are auditioned in the spring of the previous school year and are placed in this ensemble according to musical ability on their instrument.  This ensemble performs in 4 concerts and District Band Festival as well as Graduation.

Dragon Marching Band

This ensemble is essentially the Concert Band and Wind Ensemble combined and is required by all SCHS Instrumental Music Students.   Beginning in late July the Wind Ensemble combines with the Concert Band to form the “Dragon Marching Band” at a mandatory Band Camp held at Swartz Creek High School. 

Jazz Band

Jazz Band is volunteer, after school, and is open to all SCHS Band students.  It starts in mid-October and meets after school one day per week .  This group performs 3- 4 times annually.

Pep Band

This is a volunteer ensemble that performs  at all Friday Home Boys and Girls Varsity Basketball games during the 2nd and 3rd Marking Periods.    Students can perform at one or both game in lieu of required reports for that Marking Period.  One game is equivalent to one 2 page report.    

Solo and Ensemble

Solo and Ensemble festival is an added opportunity for students to excel musically.  Students will prepare music such as solos, duets to perform at our district solo and ensemble festival.  They will be judged and compared to other instrumental music students throughout the state.
